Callisto Protocol

The Callisto Protocol DLC and Updates to Last Four Years After Release (Update)

UPDATE: In an emailed update, The Callisto Protocol’s PR representatives have noted that the claim by TrueTrophies that the game would receive four years of content is incorrect. “While it’s definitely a full-service title and Striking Distance Studios is making a long-term investment in its content, they don’t recall naming a certain number of years for support,” the supplied update reads.

The Callisto Protocol may not have been released yet, but that hasn’t stopped developer Striking Distance Studios from thinking about post-launch content. While we already knew the game would be getting a season pass, the studio confirmed their post-launch DLC and content updates are currently intended to last for four years after the game’s release.

The Callisto Protocol DLC may include different modes

Callisto Protocol DLC Updates

The Callisto Protocol is a narrative-driven, third-person survival horror game set 300 years in the future in the Black Iron Prison, a maximum-security prison on Jupiter’s moon, Callisto. The game’s main linear story mode features inmate Jacob Lee’s battle to escape as the inmates are transformed into lethal unearthly creatures, but future DLC and updates could introduce different game modes, some of which may draw inspiration from “other survival horror” titles according to TrueTrophies, although no more details were given on this.

The game will be getting a season pass that’s currently included in the Digital Deluxe Edition of the game on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, and PC. While the contents of this have also not been revealed just yet, there is plenty of scope to expand on the game’s story. One example given by Striking Distance Studios’ CTO Mark James is that they “can still tell the whole story of the prison outbreak without even touching on the linear story.” He explained further:

“We’ve left the world expandable. We’ve created a world that can tell different stories, and so we can either tell those stories either through DLC, or we could actually tell those stories through subsequent products. We’ve left those open.”

Whatever DLC and updates do emerge for the game, Striking Distance Studios is “looking at four years of support after release,” so expect to be immersed in the world of Callisto for some time to come.

In other news, there’s a new TMNT game set to be released in 2023. Elsewhere, there are over 10 games leaving Xbox Game Pass by September 15.
