Assassin’s Creed Mirage Loot Boxes, AO Rating Are Mistakes, Says Ubisoft

Ubisoft has provided a statement declaring that Assassin’s Creed Mirage loot boxes, along with its AO rating and “real gambling” descriptor, are all mistakes. While Ubisoft does not specifically address the Adults-Only rating that appears at the start of the Ubisoft Forward presentation, they point at various pre-order store pages with the extremely rare rating from the ESRB as well as the PEGI 18+ rating as being incorrect.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage AO rating already being scrubbed

In a statement to various outlets that reported the news including GamesIndustry.biz, Ubisoft wants to reassure surprised and angry fans who were concerned about microtransactions and actual gambling being in the game:

“Following the announcement of Assassin’s Creed Mirage during Ubisoft Forward, some store pages mistakenly displayed the game for preorders with an Adults Only ESRB rating and are being fixed. While Assassin’s Creed Mirage is still pending rating, Ubisoft wants to reassure players that no real gambling or lootboxes are present in the game.”

Ubisoft is already scrubbing the AC Mirage pages on various storefronts, including the Xbox US listing that now has an RP (Rating Pending) rating, noting that it will most likely receive a Mature rating as it “may contain content inappropriate for children.” At the time of this writing, however, the Xbox UK listing still shows a PEGI 18 rating and the livestream for the Ubisoft Forward presentation still has an AO rating.

That said, the rating content descriptors for real gambling (as opposed to the more typical simulated gambling), intense violence, blood and gore, partial nudity, and sexual themes have largely been removed as well. The UK listing still says that AC Mirage has “extreme violence” and will have “in-game purchases,” but that’s the extent of it.

In other news, the Nintendo Direct for September 2022 has received a date and time, and the Sparks of Hope Rayman DLC for Mario + Rabbids was announced at Ubisoft Forward.
