Bethesda: The Elder Scrolls Online’s Subscription Fee Is Worth Every Penny

While we've seen many MMOs take the free-to-play route, Bethesda is sticking to the traditional subscription fee model, requiring gamers to shell out $15 each month for access to its upcoming online RPG The Elder Scrolls Online.

According to the publisher, the monthly fee will be well worth the price.  Bethesda VP of PR Pete Hines told GameSpot, "We feel pretty strongly about the support we're going to have for the game and what you're going to get for those dollars. We're also very confident in our ability to support it with content."

Hines then went on to add why it's necessary for the game to require a monthly fee, explaining that the free-to-play route would have yield in a "lesser game" experience.

It is a massive, 'Go where you want, do what you want' game that we think offers the kind of experience that's worthy of a subscription. We want to do the version that we think is the best game and the coolest experience. And that means putting a lot of people and a lot of content creators towards having stuff that comes our regularly; every four weeks, five weeks, six weeks.

We've come away from hands-on time with TESO feeling quite impressed. Read our impressions right here and grab a beta code while you still can!
