Destiny Rated “T for Teen” by ESRB

Unlike Bungie's prior sci-fi FPS series for Xbox, Destiny will be rated "T for Teen" for its "animated blood" and "violence." In case you didn't know, all of the Halo games have garnered an "M for Mature" rating, despite being relatively tame when compared to other games with the same rating.

It's clear that Activision and Bungie hope to reach as wide an audience as possible with the upcoming shared-world shooter. In fact, the studio told Polygon:

We’ve always set out to make games that lots of players can enjoy, and to build experiences that matter to people.

For Destiny, we didn’t aggressively pursue one rating over another, though. We constructed foundational pillars that have guided development from start to finish. We wanted our worlds to be a place people felt good about spending time in. We wanted our worlds to be worthy of heroes.

For us that meant Destiny would never be reprehensible, but rather bright, hopeful, and adventurous. That’s a world that resonates with us, and we hope it resonates with gamers, too.

Destiny is set to launch on September 9th for Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PS3. A public beta will be going live next month for those that pre-order the game.
