[Update] This coming Monday, Microsoft will announce that it's purchasing Minecraft developer Mojang for $2.5 billion, Reuters is reporting.
If true, this will undoubtedly be a huge get for the Big M, as Minecraft is an absolute gold mine, selling boatloads of copies consistently every single month.
[Original] A new report has surfaced, claiming that Microsoft is currently in talks to acquire Minecraft developer Mojang for a sizeable sum of what could potentially be over $2 billion.
According to The Wall Street Journal, "a person with knowledge of the matter" has informed them that the Big M is in "in serious discussions" to purchase the studio, which would undoubtedly be a huge get for the console manufacturer. Minecraft is one of the biggest games out there right now, and some sort of Xbox exclusivity could be huge.
Markus "Notch" Persson, the genius behind Mojang's hit game, has not commented on the supposed purchase, so we'll just have to sit tight for the time being and wait for official word from either the Minecraft dev or Microsoft. I can't imagine it'll be much longer before we hear more.
In the meantime, sound off in the comments below with your thoughts on this potential purchase and the impact it might have on the console war.
