A man was shot and killed in Roswell, Georgia when he attempted to sell his PlayStation 4 console to another individual via a Craiglist posting.
The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that Daniel Zeitz, a gamer involved in the competitive eSports scene, listed the console and then met a buyer late last Friday. When presented with the console, the buyer attempted to take it and flee.
During the ensuing struggle, a 16-year-old who attended the meeting with the buyer shot and killed Zeitz. The bullet apparently passed through the other individuals hand and struck Zeitz in the chest.
Zeitz reportedly participated in competitive gaming events and while I would argue that he likely showed caution in selling the PlayStation 4 console via Craigslist, it's important to remember what video game technology is really worth.
I've sold a few things on Craigslist, including a trombone I had since junior high school though that item probably wouldn't have attracted the kind of attention that a PlayStation 4 might draw. Remember to consider the value of merchandise before deciding how to pawn something given that you might have a safer and more profitable experience on eBay.
While the shooting is certainly tragic, it's important to note that the individual who tried to wrestle the console away from Zeitz admitted guilt in the hospital while receiving treatment for his hand.
