The Twitch deepfake drama rolls on, with h3h3, real name Ethan Klein, now issuing his own apology. While watching QTCinderella give a tearful response to the NSFW deepfakes making their way online, h3h3 made light of the situation by laughing, blaming his fits of laughter on the podcast’s sound technician.
It comes after Twitch streamer Atrioc was caught with a tab open to the NSFW deepfakes website, with the preview visible on his stream featuring fellow content creators Pokimane and Maya Higa. Viewers later discovered that the site also included deepfakes of QTCinderella, who happens to be the girlfriend of Atrioc’s close friend and business partner, Ludwig.
Ethan Klein apologizes for “stupid” behavior while watching QTCinderella’s emotional response to deepfakes
The apology video, titled “What is wrong with me?” was released by Ethan Klein yesterday (January 31, 2023) and saw Klein explain that the “heartfelt, serious video” put out by QTCinderella was a showcase of the “100% valid” pain the content creator was feeling, after being targeted by the creator of the NSFW deepfakes.
Klein said that he made the “unfortunate and stupid decision to play this stupid soundbite song,” which led to his laughter, and that “someone who I actually really want to support may have felt worse on an already difficult situation because of my careless and very, very inappropriate and gross and stupid behavior.”
The podcaster said that as soon as the live show ended in which his mistake was made, he went to Twitter and messaged QTCinderella directly with an apology. He added that he also sent an apology to QTCinderella’s boyfriend Ludwig, who put out his own response, shining a spotlight on the reactions of female streamers and creators.
Klein concluded that his behavior may have been as a result of his Tourettes syndrome, but noted that this could be “a bit of a cop out,” as he thinks he has “control over these things.” He finished by saying that he would happily put QTCinderella in touch with his legal counsel, and offered to help fund some of the legal fight against the deepfake website that she said she would be taking.
