Pokimane has hit out at those who think she shouldn’t be upset about her identity being taken and used in NSFW deepfakes. The comments come after Twitch streamer Atrioc was caught looking at deepfakes of fellow streamers, including Pokimane and Maya Higa, while alt-tabbing during one of his livestreams. Atrioc has since apologized, stepped back from streaming and his role at OFFBRAND, and committed to helping in the takedown of similar content across the web.
The deepfake drama has opened up a wider conversation about consent, and using a woman’s image for sexualization without their permission. Content creators like QTCinderella, who was also featured on the adult website, have spoken about their “pain” surrounding the whole situation.
Pokimane also put out a simple, yet effective response on Twitter, but it seems that this wasn’t enough for some followers. Now, she’s addressed the issue again in a recent Twitch livestream.
Pokimane slams arguments in support of NSFW deepfakes after Atrioc Twitch drama
Pokimane has slammed those who think she should not be allowed to feel anger or upset against NSFW deepfakes depicting her image, due to content she has posted in the past. Some followers said that they believed photos and posts that she has uploaded to the internet mean that she should “expect” this sort of response.
“What about Maya [Higa]?” she asked. “[She] literally makes the most wholesome content on Earth and still deals with the exact same issues as me. It makes no difference what you post, or what you do. Also, people can post whatever they want and that still means that you need their consent to do certain things, including sexualizing them and then profiting off of it.”
In related news, h3h3 has issued an apology to QTCinderella after laughing during her emotional NSFW deepfakes response, and Ludwig has given his own response to the Atrioc NSFW deepfake drama on Twitch.
