Sony Cutting Back on TV and Smartphone Divisions, Doubling Down on PlayStation

Sony will be scaling back its focus on its smartphone and television divisions, and continue to invest more in the PlayStation brand, the company revealed during a recent financial report.

The company has a three-year plan in which it seeks to minimize its focus on TVs and smart devices so it can focus more on its gaming division. Sony is also going to focus on the sale of its image sensors, which have proven to be quite lucrative for the company, thanks to their inclusion in popular smartphones.

"There's a lot of expectation for Sony now, but nothing is sure until there are results," Ichiyoshi Asset Management chief fund manager Akino Mitsushige explained to Reuters. "Getting out of the mobile market is an option, but they can't do that now, so they will need to make some fundamental changes."

While PS Vita hasn't been flying off store shelves, PlayStation 4 has been selling at a steady rate, outpacing the competition month after month. As such, you can bet Sony will be pushing PS4 big time in the months and years to come.
