Gravity Rush 2 will finally drop (no pun intended) on Wednesday, and you will be hit upside the head with a whole new disorienting world, especially those of you who have never played a Gravity Rush game before.

What you'll notice immediately, though, is the presence of pink gems around the world. Collecting these gems will allow you to upgrade your various skills that help you either move around, fight enemies or both. Just starting the game, it will be hard to know what is essential and what isn't, and we'd hate to have you go through the game upgrading one or two skills only to find out that they aren't worth the digital ink they're drawn with.

Top 5 Essential Upgrades For Gravity Rush 2
1. Statis Field Boost
This is one of the cheapest upgrades, but you should get it first thing. For a measly 400 gems, this increases your stasis field power from being able to hold 2 objects at a time to being able to hold 3 objects at a time. rn rnThis may not seem game-changing per-se, which will lead many people to disregard it entirely. That is a fool's distinction, though. Being able to hold 3 objects at a time is absolutely essential. rn rnYou won't know it, but throughout the game you're going to be tasked with several side-missions and even main story missions that require you to use the Stasis Field (put out fires with water balls, deliver newspapers, grab gem crates for the rebels, etcetera), and this will increase the speed at which you can accomplish those tasks by 50 percent, making this not an insignificant upgrade by any stretch of the imagination.
5. Shower Kick
Shower Kick is a great skill to have for two main reasons. 1) It is an excellent move, allowing you to attack more easily from the sky or from the ground and 2) it helps mix up the combat to make it not feel so repetitive. rn rnYes, two shouldn't really be a valid reason, but it definitely helps, and the first reason makes the whole skill worth it. You can quick chain together a square-square-square+X, and you got yourself a knockout of any regular enemy, making this a quick and effective skill for stealth missions and regular beat-em-up segments.
3. Charged Piercing Throw
As many reviewers have noted, the much-improved Stasis Field and Gravity Throw has been something of a late Christmas gift in Gravity Rush 2 , and the Charged throw is a big part of that. rn rnBut, with the Charged Piercing Throw upgrade, you can make even better use of that skill. While later upgrades will increase this ability even further, you really only need this first version to be set for the rest of the game.
4. Gravity Guade Recovery Boost
Noting is more of a fun sucker than that little beeping sound that lets you know you're running out of Gravity power. This is no more annoying or soul-crushing than when you're engaged in combat with giant monsters. rn rnThat's why this is one of my only multi-thousand-gem upgrade recommendation. Even just to get there, it will cost quite a bit, but it will make your combat experience all the more rewarding, and all it takes is a little timing, like a critical counter in Batman: Arkham Knight . Just dodge right before the attack hits you and voila: no more annoying beeping sound.
2. 1500 Longer Duration on Spiraling Claw Special Attack
This is upgrade path is one of the simplest. Once your SP gage fills up, you can unleash a devastating special attack that will auto-target enemies and move on to the next after its dispatched them. The problem is that the move by itself doesn't last very long. rn rnThat's where this upgrade path comes in. Again, the later upgrades will increase the duration even further, but I recommend getting the first two and then calling it good (the second upgrade cost 1500 gems, which isn't all that much). rn rnWith even the first upgrade in this tier, you'll be able to destroy two enemy mech mini-bosses with one use, and the second one increases that effectiveness even further, making this one essential.
