What Are You Playing? April 10, 2019

It’s a quiet week in the games industry, which means that we’ve been able to dive into our backlogs and pull out games we either haven’t got around to playing before, or games we liked that we wanted to revisit. This week, I’ve been enjoying my brand new monitor and hunting bounties in Sea of Thieves, Jason’s returned to SNES-era Hyrule, Mack’s been prepping for Borderlands 3, Michael’s taken on Bloodborne, while Bradley has dusted off his Vita for a few rounds of golf.

As always, let us know what YOU have been playing in the comments section below!

Paul Tamburro, executive editor: “I recently bought an ultra-widescreen 4K monitor, though my internet is still a bag of shit so I’m playing games that I’ve already installed. Look, the monitor’s pretty, but I don’t want to spend 30 hours waiting for something great to play on it. I’ve therefore hopped back into Sea of Thieves, a game that still feels as barren as its oceans, but looks lovely regardless. I may keep getting lumbered with pirates who disconnect at the first sign of danger, but its water sure looks realistic on my massive monitor.”

Jason Faulkner, senior editor: “Besides an unnamed game for review, I’ve been playing Zelda: A Link to the Past. I haven’t had a lot of time for gaming the past week or so, but I’ve been hitting up LttP when I can. It’s one of the fairly small number of SNES games that has a forgiving save system, so it’s fun to pick up and play for 30 minutes at a time without having to worry about finding the next save point.”

Mack Ashworth, lead editor: “I’m still powering on through Borderlands 2 as Gaige. The character is so powerful and I love it! Though it’s over six years old, this game has aged tremendously well, and the new 4K update helps keep it looking fresh. Gameplay-wise, it’s fantastic, with a variety of crazy missions and side missions that offer a lot of variety. Combine that with the fantastic humor and characters, and it’s still a winning formula. I thought I’d be tired of loot shooters after playing through Anthem and The Division 2, but I guess there’s always room for more Borderlands!”

Michael Leri, features editor: “After four years, I finally went back to Bloodborne. It took me about a day and a half of screaming and anger to see the light. I got over the hill and have realized how incredible and satisfying that game is. I’m not quite done yet but I’m already eyeing games like Nioh and Dark Souls to jump on next. You could say I’m almost a Bloodborne again Souls fan now.”

Bradley Russell, news editor: “Everybody’s Golf on PS Vita. Truth be told, I haven’t had a great deal of time to play anything this week (such is the life of a game journalist) so I thought I’d dust off the ol’ Vita and kick back with a real comfort blanket of a game. Sure, it’s making me guilty that I’m neglecting my dozen-strong backlog for a golf game, but it’s a perfect pick-up-and-play game to help rescue me from mountains of work.”
