Five Gaming Predictions for 2015

It's a new year. A new year for gaming and the inevitable deluge of announcements that will rock the industry. We've got a full twelve months ahead that promise to offer some incredible experiences for those who hold this hobby near and dear, and I don't know about you, but I can't wait for what's in store for all us gaming folk.

It's no secret that I love to speculate, so in celebration of the new year, I've taken the time to enlighten you with some of my predictions for 2015. So, if you enjoy some completely unfounded guesswork by Alex Osborn, join me as I go over my five predictions for the new year.

The Legend of Zelda for Wii U Delayed to 2016

As much as it pains me to predict this, I have a difficult time believing The Legend of Zelda for Wii U will be ready for launch this holiday season. Sure, we saw the game running during The Game Awards 2014, but it looked like it was still rather early in development. If there's one thing you can count on with Nintendo, the company never rushes a product (especially Zelda) to market. There's a lot hinging on this title, and while it would be great for Wii U to have this game in its arsenal for the holiday season, I think Nintendo will end up delaying it so the team can polish it to a fine sheen.

Evolve Is 2015's Titanfall

There was a whole lot of hype in the lead-up to the launch of Titanfall, but when the game came out, it was basically a flash in the pan. It generated some initial buzz among first-person shooter fans, but after a few weeks, the excitement died down tremendously. I have a feeling the same will prove true with Turtle Rock Studios' Evolve. This four-versus-one co-op shooter has an interesting hook that has loads of gamers hyped, but I fear once it's out, that excitement will drop off quickly. I don't doubt that Evolve will live on for months and even years to come in hardcore circles, but I don't see it being the FPS phenomenon that the reports are making it out to be.

Persona 5 Doesn't Make 2015 Release Outside Japan

While I'm confident Persona 5 will make its way to Japanese gamers before year's end, I have doubts it'll be out for the rest of the world before 2015 comes to a close. Fans of the franchise know there is a whole lot of dialog in these games, which means there's a whole lot of localization work to take care of too. The reality is we've still seen very little of Persona 5, and considering how high the studio's bar is for quality, I could totally see a western release getting pushed to early 2016.

Fallout 4 Announced, Set in Boston

A new entry in the Fallout franchise is basically a given at this point, but Bethesda still has yet to formally announce the title. We've heard rumors the game will be set in Boston, and seeing as how it's been a several years since The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim launched, I think we're about due for a new Fallout. Will it be out before the end of the year? Probably not, but I can't imagine Bethesda will remain silent on the open-world post-apocalyptic franchise for another twelve months.

The Last Guardian Re-revealed, Launches Holiday 2015

Yeah, I know, The Last Guardian has basically become a running joke at this point, but that doesn't change the fact that Sony refuses to say it's dead. In fact, Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida has gone so far to say that development is currently progressing quite well. The game is obviously a PlayStation 4 title at this point and will likely look a bit different from what was first teased, but PlayStation fans can rest assured that it's still in the works. I don't imagine Sony will show the game until it's near completion, so I truly believe this is the year we see the game again in a formal re-reveal (hopefully at E3), along with the announcement it will be launching by year's end.
