Logitech G303 Shroud Edition Wireless Mouse Review: ‘A remastered classic’

LOGITECH G303 SHROUD EDITION WIRELESS MOUSE REVIEW.

Every first-person shooter fan wants to play like a pro. If it were possible to zap a pro’s ability, Space Jam-style, one of my go-to players would be Shroud, who is best known for his incredible aim across every single shooter he plays. After making waves in the eSports scene, Shroud has since boomed as one of the most popular streamers on Twitch. Now, he has paired with Logitech to bring back his favorite mouse: the Logitech G303. This G303 has an updated shape, apparently molded to fit Shroud’s hand perfectly, as well as Logitech’s impressive Hero 25K sensor, low-latency wireless Lightspeed technology, and lightweight construction. However, this all comes at a premium price point. Is it worth buying? This is my Logitech G303 Shroud Edition Wireless Mouse review.

Becoming Shroud

Logitech G303 Shroud Edition Wireless Mouse Review

Having recently reviewed the Logitech G Pro X Superlight Wireless, I had high expectations of the G303 Shroud Edition unboxing experience. The good news is that the G303 Shroud Edition uses USB-C, so I think that’s confirmation that all future Logitech mice will use the latest standard. Joining the mouse in the box are a USB-C cable for charging and wired use, a dongle, and paperwork. There are no additional grips or any other goodies, and the mouse pouch is sold separately, which is a bit of a disappointment at this price.

For anyone who hasn’t used the original G303, the shape of the G303 Shroud Edition will take some getting used to. The slightly lowered left side and slightly raised right side are a contrast to the ergonomic and ambidextrous shapes that I’m used to. It’s also tricky for all but the smallest of hands to palm grip. It’s clear that this shape is ideal for Shroud and other fingertip/claw-grip users.

The gap between the back of the mouse and the user’s palm allows for a unique quick downwards movement. The mouse can be quickly brought back into the palm with movement from fingers alone, making rapid, yet controlled, adjustments for recoil incredibly easy. This provides a surprising advantage in first-person shooters that have weapons with a lot of kick and/or for those who prefer a low sensitivity.

I’ve never used any other mouse like it. Though it took some getting used to, especially when you consider that I prefer ergonomic designs and have larger hands, I do think that the G303 Shroud Edition is going to make a lot of people happy. Those with smaller to medium-sized hands will be moving this thing around with no issues. However, larger-handed folks will need to have a reliable fingertip or claw grip to feel comfortable with this product.

Incorporates the best of Logitech

Speaking of sensitivity, the Logitech G303 Shroud Edition uses the Hero 25K sensor, which is both super accurate in tracking and impressively efficient when it comes to battery life. Like the G Pro X Superlight, the G303 Shroud Edition will only need charging a few times per month, making battery anxiety a thing of the past. Charge it every Sunday while you eat dinner and you’ll have absolutely no worries.

The G303 Shroud Edition’s button clicks are fantastic here. Both Mouse 1 and 2 are expectedly great, but it’s the side buttons that are the pleasant surprise. The G Pro X Superlight’s side buttons felt relatively mushy and had a little too much pre- and post-travel. The G303 Shroud Edition has no such problems.

Style-wise, the G303 Shroud Edition looks similar to the original G303, though RGB lighting has been entirely cut. The top of the mouse has a matte finish, which looks great now but may develop a shine over time. (I’m still waiting for Logitech to embrace glossy plastic, for the additional grip and to fight the shine of finger oils.) The sides of the mouse are slightly translucent and I think that that it looks fantastic.

Logitech G303 Shroud Edition Wireless Mouse Review: The final verdict

Logitech G303 Shroud Edition Wireless Mouse Review

At $129.99, the Logitech G303 Shroud Edition is yet another mouse from the company that pushes above the $100 price point. It’s a little bit cheaper than the G Pro X Superlight, but it’s also heavier. The shape is the main feature here and lovers of the original G303 will no doubt feel at home with this product.

For those who either love Shroud for his eSports and/or streaming achievements and want to support this collaboration, or hope to play like him with his mouse of choice, the G303 Shroud Edition is certainly a fantastic option. Its unique shape makes it stands out from the competition and I’m eager to see more classic Logitech mice given the remaster treatment.
