The Boston Police Department announced today that, on Friday, they arrested 18-year-old Kevin Norton and 27-year-old James Stumbo after receiving word of threats of violence made on social media to attendees of the Pokemon World Championships.
Private security at the Hynes Convention Center alerted the Boston Regional Intelligence Center (BRIC) of these threats, prompting investigation by officers and prevented the two Iowa-native suspects from entering the event after officers found firearms in their vehicle. Both were registered in the "masters division" of the Pokémon TCG.
As the suspects could not produce a license to carry, officers seized their vehicle and, after receiving a search warrant, found that it housed "one 12-gauge Remington shotgun, one DPM5 Model AR-15 Rifle, several hundred rounds of ammunition, and a hunting knife."
Both Norton and Stumbo were arrested at the Saugus hotel and charged with unlawful possession of a firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition, and "other firarm-related charges."
