Japan recently had a major restock ofNintendo Switch hardware in its publisher’s home country, leading to most major games for the system being completely sold out across the country. Physical copies of popular titles like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Xenoblade Chronicles 2, and more are becoming hard to find in the Land of the Rising Sun.
As reported on by NintendoSoup, the shortage of Switch games is affecting stores across the country. For example, major electronics chain Yodabashi Camera is completely sold out of Breath of the Wild and Dragon Ball Xenoverse 2 right now, but shipments of those games are supposedly on the way.
Unfortunately for Japanese gamers, brick-and-mortar stores aren’t the only ones affected by the Switch shortage, as Amazon Japan is suffering as well. According to NintendoSoup, Breath of the Wild, the recently released Xenoblade Chronicles 2, Arms, 1-2-Switch, and more are totally sold out on the online retailer.
Not only that, but some games are actually on back order, giving an estimated arrival of one to four weeks before the games will be able to ship to consumers. This shortage is most likely because of the recent restock of Switch hardware in Japan. For the first nine months of being available, the console was extremely difficult to find on store shelves.
That changed all of a sudden with the start of 2018, as stores like the aforementioned Yodabashi Camera and Amazon Japan received a significant shipment of the hybrid system. With the holidays right behind us and a large wave of new console owners, it is no surprise that there has been a shortage in Switch software.
In other Switch-related news, it was revealed this week that the system is now the fastest-selling video game console of all-time in the United States for its first 10 months, beating out the Wii.
