At Sega’s PAX West 2018 panel, it was revealed that the Valkyria Chronicles Switch port will be coming to the West. This version of the remastered edition of the game will arrive in western markets October 16, 2018. It will be sold exclusively on the Nintendo Switch eShop and will retail in the US for $19.99.
The remastered version of Valkyria Chronicles for the Nintendo Switch, previously released on the PS3, was already slated to be due out in Japan for September, though there’s plenty more where that came from if you’re a fan of the series. The release of the first game of the franchise on Nintendo’s hybrid portable-console will be arriving shortly after the release of the latest entry into the series, Valkyria Chronicles 4, which will be released September 25.
By purchasing Valkyria Chronicles 4 on the Switch before Valkyria Chronicles comes out on the console, you will be able to receive a 25% discount off of the remaster of the original game. This means, if both games are bought, the Nintendo Switch port of the first game in the franchise will be roughly $14.99. If you would like the remastered original now, you can purchase it on PC and PS4 though, of course, the Switch version comes with the added bonus of being able to be played on-the-go.
The original Valkyria Chronicles was released on PS3 in 2008. It is set in a fictionalized version of Europe and World War Two. Players are tasked with taking control of a small unit of soldiers from a neutral country in the game’s fiction, with gameplay combining real-time strategy and third-person shooter mechanics. Our own review of the first entry in the franchise gave it a rating of four out of five, citing its visuals, story, and unique gameplay mechanics as highlights of the title.
The Valkiryia Chronicles Switch port will be released October 16, while Valkyria Chronicles 4 will be releasing September 25, 2018.
