Yakuza: Like a Dragon | How to unlock Part-time Hero challenges

Unlocking Part-time Hero gives Yakuza: Like a Dragon players a chance to take on the challenges that are a hallmark of the series. However, unlike past games, the challenge system in Like a Dragon includes side missions, which include collecting items, saving people from enemies, and more. However, Part-time Hero isn’t unlocked from the beginning of the game.

Fortunately, unlocking Part-time Hero in Yakuza: Like a Dragon is simple. It just takes a little patience.

Part-time Hero becomes available in Yakuza: Like a Dragon as part of sub-story #12 “Part-time Hero.” This particular sub-story is unmissable and becomes available during Chapter 5: The Liumang Man. Players can find this sub-story by following the first mission marker that appears after being tasked to find Mabuchi on Restaurant Row.

Sub-story #12 introduces the player to Hiro, the founder of Part-time Hero.com. This service allows the citizens of Yokohama to request help from a “hero.” After the short sub-story concludes, players will find that Part-time Hero is unlocked on the menu.

Part-time Hero is broken into three categories of quests:

  • Support:
    • These non-combat requests mostly require the player to deliver items or to locate people, animals, or locations (like the kappa statues).
  • Rescue:
    • These quests involve the party rescuing a citizen by beating up baddies.
  • Challenge:
    • These achievements are to be completed during the course of the game and involve accomplishing certain tasks while exploring, fighting, playing minigames, or in Management Mode.

When players first receive access to Part-time Hero in Yakuza: Like a Dragon, any challenges they’ve completed so far will be automatically added to the app. So, prepare for a massive burst of notifications as soon as the sub-story is over. As far as we’ve seen, none of the quests or challenges in Part-time Hero are missable, so unlike sub-stories, these can be completed at the player’s leisure.
