Hideo Kojima Will Be ‘Deeply Involved’ With Death Stranding Movie, but Won’t Be Directing It

Hideo Kojima fans are no doubt excited about the upcoming adaptation of Death Stranding. However, it seems the man will not be directing the movie, though he is still involved.

He seems to be doing everything but direct

In a recent post on his Twitter page, Hideo Kojima made it clear that while he’s not attached as a director, he is still “deeply involved” with the project. In particular, he’ll be onboard to help with the plotting, production, the supervisory aspects, design, general content, and the look of the Death Stranding movie.

Given his passion for film, many would have liked to see the game auteur be the ultimate visionary in the adaptation. At the moment, it’s not known who the director will be, but the project is being executive produced by Allan Ungar, and is in partnership with Hammerstone Studios, the production company responsible for the 2020 film Bill & Ted Face the Music.

Hideo Kojima has also been fueling speculation recently when a picture of him posing with Nicolas Cage seemed to suggest the Hollywood actor will be working with the developer. It’s not clear in what capacity, but fans think it may be linked to Death Stranding 2.

Obviously, these are just speculations at this stage, but given that Kojima has worked with a number of actors and celebrities in the past, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Cage was on board for one of his projects.

The Death Stranding movie was announced in December 2022, with Hideo Kojima himself saying that he “couldn’t be more excited” about the film. At the time of writing, the adaptation does not yet have a release date.
