FIFA 19 Serie A: Is the Official Italian License Coming to FIFA?

With Konami losing much of its official licenses this year, attention turns to FIFA 19 to see whether it’ll hoover up the remaining bunch of real likeness, kits, and badges. One such license that appears to be on the way is the one for Serie A. The top Italian division is often referred to as ‘Calcio A’ in EA’s soccer series, but that could be able to change for good as the FIFA 19 Serie A rumors get rolling.

FIFA 19 Serie A: Is the Official Italian License Coming to FIFA?

According to a report from respected Italian outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (H/T Calcio Finanza), both the Serie A license, as well as the rights to the Coppa Italia will be heading FIFA 19‘s way come September. This would be a bitter blow to Konami, who previously had the majority of Serie A licenses bar Juventus in PES 2018 and have a long track record of keeping the Italian license. With the loss of the Champions League license for Pro Evo, it appears that FIFA 19 will also be adding Serie A to its considerable licensing collection.

FIFA 19 Serie A: What Would Change From FIFA 18?

While FIFA 18 included every single officially licensed team in both Serie A and Serie B, the leagues were referred to as Calcio A and Calcio B, with the Coppa Italia also not receiving official branding. With the possibility of a licensing deal being struck in time for FIFA 19, that would mean the league would join the likes of the Premier League and La Liga in terms of overall presentation. Real-life overlays, match graphics, and more little features such as branding on sleeves could be included.

FIFA 19 Serie A: Who Owns the Licenses?

As of 2018, it was thought that Konami owned the license to Serie A, barring the actual league name. If the Italian report is correct, all Italian licenses will be in EA’s hands for the 2018/19 season.
