Cyberpunk 2077 is on its way from CD Projekt RED, the creators of The Witcher series, and it’s already looking amazing. It’s currently planned, or at least aiming, for release on PC, Xbox One, and PS4, but what about Nintendo Switch? Is there going to be a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch version, or is the game only coming to non-portable systems (barring a really expensive laptop)? Let’s find out.
Will There Be a Cyberpunk 2077 Switch Version?
CD Projekt RED has not confirmed any platforms for the release of Cyberpunk 2077, with the obvious exception of PC. The developer is at least aiming for a current-gen release, although at the moment the only consoles they’ve mentioned are Xbox One and PS4. The studio currently has no plans to release the game for Nintendo Switch. While admittedly no console platforms have been confirmed at all, Cyberpunk 2077 will probably be too systems intensive for Nintendo’s less powerful hardware, so do not expect to see a Switch version.
What Do We Know About Cyberpunk 2077?
There was a sizeable gameplay reveal of Cyberpunk 2077, and from that we learned quite a bit about the game. Unlike CD Projekt RED’s other games it will be a first-person RPG, similar in look and tone to Deus Ex but in many ways completely different. The futuristic setting of Night City will be fully open-world, with crowds of NPCs supposedly leading their own lives independent of any player action. There will be a Street Cred reputation system, and numerous classes and professions mostly taken from the Cyberpunk 2020 tabletop RPG that the game’s based upon.
While we know a decent amount about Cyberpunk 2077, the one thing we don’t truly know is a release date. While we’re generally expecting 2019, especially as the main story is playable from start to finish, we should not be surprised if it slips to 2020.
