Call of Duty 2019 has finally been revealed, and the name will be somewhat familiar to fans, as it’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. It’s the fourth game to bear the Modern Warfare name, and is the first new game in this series of the Call of Duty franchise in eight years following 2011’s Modern Warfare 3. However, the lack of a number may be a little confusing for players. Is the new Modern Warfare a remake of 2007’s Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the first in the Modern Warfare line? If not, is it a sequel, or a whole new thing? Let’s have a look.
So, is the new Modern Warfare a remake?
Despite having a name that is just a number away from Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare is actually a brand new game in the series and is not a remake of any of the other Modern Warfare games. It will, however, feature the return of the popular Captain Price, but this time in a story set after the events of the Modern Warfare trilogy. Incidentally, it would be odd if it was a remake, seeing as Activision recently released Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare Remastered for current-gen systems.
What is Call of Duty: Modern Warfare then?
Activision describes the new Modern Warfare as a “reimagining” of the series, so a reboot of sorts, but at the same time it’s clearly described as “all-new” as well. It’s also noted to be “an emotionally charged experience that’s inspired by the headlines in the world today, where the rules are grey and battle lines are blurred.” It will have a full single-player campaign with co-op and a brand new game engine, but sadly will not have a Zombies mode. It’s more realistic than that.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare will be out on October 25 for Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
