Just a few moments ago, Bethesda announced that Doom, Doom 2, and Doom 3 will be available to purchase on PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch. While this is great news for Doomslayers across the globe, it turns out that even 25-year-old games cannot escape the crux of online gaming: proprietary online accounts. Yes, a Doom Bethesda account is required to play the Doom and Doom 2 ports. This guide will show you how to sign in to your Bethesda account on the Doom ports and start shooting demons.

Signing in to your Bethesda account on any of the ports is very simple. Here are the steps you will need to take to start shooting:

  • Connect to an online network
  • Start the game
  • Press any button at the title screen
  • Doom and Doom 2 will promptly ask you to create a Bethesda account. To sign in to an existing one, the option is available right above the initial email field. If you’re playing Doom 3, select “Enter an email address.”
  • Enter your Bethesda account email and password.

That really all there is to it. These steps can also be used for creating an account through the game. The difference is you just enter the desired email into the field, and confirm it. Once you’ve wither signed in or created an account, the information will automatically transfer to the other Doom ports. It should also be noted that you cannot switch to a different Bethesda account within the game, so make sure the account you tether to your Nintendo Switch is the one you want to use.

Doom Bethesda Account | Do you need to be online to play the Doom ports?

If you have already signed in with your Bethesda account, no, you do not need an online connection to play Doom or Doom 2. However, it does display this message: “Unable to access online features without a connection to Nintendo Switch Online.” If you have not created or linked a Bethesda account to your Switch, you will not be able to play the game offline. Instead, it will prompt a message that says “A Bethesda.net account is required to play this title. Please connect to the internet to continue.

Interestingly, from the looks of this video, you do not need a Bethesda account to play Doom 3.  If you wish to not sign in or create an account, you can just hit “B” to go back to the main menu and begin the campaign.
