Nier Replicant: How to unlock 15 Nightmares

Nier Replicant: How to unlock 15 Nightmares

Nier Replicant version 1.22474487139 may not technically be a new game, but it does have extra content on offer. Among that content is 15 Nightmares, a set of challenging dungeons that were previously released as a DLC pack for the original game. If you want to see all that version 1.22474487139 has to offer — including the new Ending E — you’ll need to unlock 15 Nightmares and complete each of the challenges within.

How to unlock 15 Nightmares in Nier Replicant version 1.22474487139

To unlock the 15 Nightmares dungeons in Nier Replicant, you first need to unlock Ending A. Then, on your second run through, you need to stop by Nier’s house and inspect the glowing area by the bookshelf. From there, you’ll be able to access all 15 Nightmares.

Warning: Slight story spoilers to follow.

If this is your first run through Nier Replicant, you may not be aware of all of the game’s endings. Without giving away too many details, there are five of them (the latest, Ending E, being new to version 1.22474487139), and each ending relies on certain actions being taken in previous runs. And before you ask, don’t worry — you don’t need to play Automata first to understanding what’s happening.

For the purpose of 15 Nightmares, you only need to unlock Ending A, the very first ending. This one is simple: Just beat the game, taking as much or as little time as you like. Once beaten, you’ll be able to re-load your save data, which will put you back around the mid-game area. You won’t have to replay the beginning all over again, though there will be a bit of back tracking.

After you load your post-game save, head back to Nier’s house. Poke around the first floor and look around the bookshelf for a place that is glowing. Interacting with it will transport you to a hub area that links out to several challenging dungeons.

These, of course, are the 15 Nightmares. You’ll assume the role of Father Nier for these dungeons, though you’ll be able to keep your existing weapons and abilities. You’ll need them, too, as the challenge ramps up with each dungeon completed. To make matters even more interesting, you’ll also have to restart the dungeon any time you die. As such, it’s best to go in prepared and well-leveled — you’ll want to be at least level 30 before starting.

The rewards for unlocking and completing all 15 Nightmares are twofold. One the one hand, you’ll earn the Dear Diary achievement. On the other, you’ll unlock several rare weapons, including the Fool’s Embrace, Fool’s Lament, and Fool’s Accord. This is an important step toward earning endings C and D, which require you to collect every single weapon in the game. Ending E, of course, can only be unlocked after completing Ending D.

If you want to see the new ending in Nier Replicant version 1.22474487139, you’ll need to unlock and complete all 15 Nightmares. It won’t be easy, but it’s a necessary step toward seeing all variations of the game’s story.
