Battlefield 2042 beta crossplay

Is the Battlefield 2042 beta crossplay between PC, PS5, Xbox?

Does the Battlefield 2042 beta allow crossplay between PC, PS5, and Xbox consoles? Crossplay is the only way to team up with friends running other platforms, ALLOWINGyou to link up and play without restrictions. It’s increasingly becoming a prerequisite for multiplayer-driven games, especially with the new generation of consoles so hard to come by. If you’re wondering about cross-play functionality in the Battlefield 2042 beta, between PC, PS5, and Xbox, then we have the answers you need.

Does Battlefield 2042 have crossplay?

Battlefield 2042 beta crossplay

The Battlefield 2042 open beta has limited crossplay functionality. Open matchmaking occurs across platforms, but you cannot form parties and play the beta with friends on different consoles.

The bad news was confirmed by DICE in a Battlefield 2042 open beta FAQ. It confirms that “you will not be able to squad up with players on different platforms,” meaning you can’t join friends’ lobbies. Interestingly, though, the Conquest mode in the beta uses crossplay in its matchmaking. This means next-gen and PC players will be in lobbies together, and previous-gen players will be, too. However, the distinction is that this is automatic. You can’t manually team up with friends on other platforms.

Therefore, the Battlefield 2042 open beta has limited crossplay. Despite playing with other platforms, you can’t choose who those people are, and can’t play with friends. While this is an annoyance during the beta, the mechanic will be in the final game. As per DICE’s FAQ, they’re “making great progress to have this feature fully available at launch,” meaning it should be enabled by November.

Nonetheless, it’s a disappointment for Battlefield 2042 players unable to squad up with friends on other platforms. The inability to team up across platforms might dampen spirits going into the beta.
