GTA Trilogy remaster Steam release date

When is the GTA Trilogy remaster Steam release date?

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition is bringing three classic GTA games into the modern age. Naturally, this has gamers excited to play the remaster collection on a variety of different hardware. PC users are wondering, however, if they can enjoy the remasters on Valve’s PC gaming platform Steam. So, is there a GTA Trilogy remaster Steam release date coming up? Here’s the latest on Rockstar Games’ collection of classics coming to Steam for PC.

Is the GTA Trilogy remaster coming to Steam?

GTA Trilogy remaster Steam release date

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy is coming to PC via the Rockstar Games Launcher on November 11, 2021. There is no GTA Trilogy Steam release date for the PC remasters of GTA 3, Vice City, and San Andreas.

Rockstar usually launches its software on Steam for PC, most recently Red Dead Redemption 2 and continual updates for Grand Theft Auto: Online. The studio is deviating from past precedent with the launch of its GTA Trilogy remasters, however, opting to skip over the distributor instead. It’s worth noting that R* isn’t supporting the Epic Games Store (EGS) either, further limiting players’ purchasing options on the PC platform.

The Grand Theft Auto Trilogy remastered collection is a Rockstar Games Launcher exclusive on PC. Although it’s likely to be an unpopular move, the reasoning behind the decision is clear — R* will earn more money from each and every sale. Specifically, the studio will earn 100% of the proceeds on PC instead of splitting them with a hosting storefront.

This practice isn’t uncommon (Far Cry 6, for example), though that doesn’t mean the PC gaming community is accepting of it. There will almost certainly be boycotts of GTA Trilogy on PC, as many users refuse to deviate from Steam and play elsewhere. Controversially, the removal of the original versions means that Steam players can’t even buy those anymore. For now, the Rockstar Games Launcher has a monopoly on GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas on PC.

In another controversial move, GTA Trilogy doesn’t include LCS and VCS remasters. The three titles in the collection also aren’t available to purchase individually.
