The team at Meta has announced that GTA: San Andreas VR is in development for the Oculus Quest 2. Not only is that exciting news for series fans, but it’s frankly awesome for VR enthusiasts. GTA is hot, and San Andreas is right back in the modern conversation thanks to the GTA Trilogy. But is this new take on the classic game coming to other platforms? Will GTA: San Andreas VR release for Steam or PSVR?
Will GTA: San Andreas VR release for Steam and PSVR?
There’s no confirmation that GTA: San Andreas VR will release for Steam or PlayStation VR. So far, it has only been announced for the Oculus Quest 2. By all accounts, it appears that San Andreas VR is a Quest 2 exclusive. However, other classic game VR conversions on the Quest made it to additional platforms, so Steam and PSVR releases aren’t out of the question just yet.
Perhaps a better question will be whether or not San Andreas VR can run on other VR headsets. The Quest 2 is the company’s latest and greatest, and frankly, it makes PSVR look outdated. Sony’s offering may not be up to the task. It’s also possible that the game is optimized specifically for Quest 2, which would make it incompatible with other headsets.
To make matters more complicated, the headset’s previous big VR makeover game, Resident Evil 4 VR, is a Quest 2 exclusive. It’s very possible that Oculus will want to keep San Andreas VR exclusive to its platform as well. This is especially true considering the GTA Trilogy is bringing an enhanced version of the non-VR game to non-VR platforms.
Either way, we’re going to have to wait to learn more. Thankfully, the team at Meta said players can expect a full San Andreas VR reveal at the Oculus Gaming Showcase next year. By then, we should have an idea of whether it will release for Steam or PSVR, and hopefully its release date.
