Who is the Eternals Kit Harington character? The popular Game of Thrones actor has joined the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Eternals’ Dane Whitman, the mortal boyfriend of Eternal Sersi (Gemma Chan), who appears primarily at the beginning and the ending of the movie — although he teases an important revelation regarding his “family history” and is the main focus of the post-credits scene. Is Kit Harington indeed the Eternals Black Knight Marvel character?
Spoilers for Eternals follow!
Who is Kit Harington in Eternals?
Kit Harington plays Dane Whitman, who in the Marvel comics is known as the Black Knight — a more magic-focused hero who has no natural superpowers, unlike the Eternals, but has enchanted armor that can deflect most attacks and a sword called the Ebony Blade. Rather notably considering where Marvel Phase 4 is going, one of Dane Whitman’s first encounters with the Avengers saw him aiding them against Kang the Conqueror — who was introduced in the finale of Loki this year and is likely playing a large role in the MCU going forward.
The post-credits scene of Eternals is the biggest clue towards Dane Whitman’s journey towards becoming the Black Knight, as the movie shows him opening a box with a red bird symbol on it— which contains the sinister Ebony Blade. This scene suggests he will embrace his heritage in the sequel, but the voice that speaks to him may have other plans since this is none other than vampire hunter Blade (Mahershala Ali). Since the new Blade movie will be out before Eternals 2, Kit Harington may appear in that first.
Elsewhere on Eternals, sadly the movie is currently sitting on the lowest Rotten Tomatoes score of any MCU movie, significantly poorer than the new Guardians of the Galaxy game. Aside from the Black Knight and Blade not many other Marvel characters appear in Eternals, which is weird considering Superman is name-dropped.
