Naraka: Bladepoint HVCI KMCI: Should You Disable HVCI_KMCI to Install It?

The now free-to-play Naraka: Bladepoint on PC is asking some users to disable HVCI KMCI during the game’s installation, which is something players should be concerned about. HVCI KMCI, otherwise known as HVCI_KMCI, is another name for Memory Integrity, a feature in Windows Security that protects attacks from inserting malicious code into high-security processes. Any game that asks you to deactivate security features on your computer should rightfully be met with suspicion. Here’s whether you should disable HVCI KMCI to install Naraka Bladepoint and if it’s safe to do so.

Is it safe to disable HVCI KMCI for Naraka Bladepoint?

It’s generally safe to disable HVCI KMCI to install Naraka: Bladepoint, but you should check your security settings and think about whether it’s right for your setup.

Sometimes games, especially multiplayer games, will ask players to disable Memory Integrity (or HVCI_KMCI) so that it will increase performance. In reality, what they want to do is install a kernel-level anti-cheat engine to make sure that people aren’t using hacks.

It’s up to you whether you feel comfortable with a game, let alone any program, to be able to see what you’re doing with your PC just to make sure you aren’t cheating. Some players are fine with this since turning off Memory Integrity is not an uncommon practice in gaming, but others may be turned off by how intrusive this is.

If you want to disable HVCI KMCI, you can type in “Core Isolation” in your Windows search bar. From there, you’ll find a toggle where you can turn Memory Integrity on or off. In some cases, you’ll find that it has already been turned off, so you won’t have to change any settings. That said, if you find that it is turned off by default, you may have already had it disabled this entire time without knowing.

Xbox Game Pass subscribers will earn extra items for Naraka Bladepoint with the free upgrade to Deluxe Edition, namely two legendary weapon skins, some Hero Coins, and 10 Immortal Treasures. The game was added to Xbox Game Pass in June 2022.
