The first boss in Lies of P is a tough one. The Parade Master is a skill check that will be the end of the line for many players. It’s been detuned a bit since the demo came out, but don’t be surprised if you die a few times to this infernal machine.
How to beat the first boss in Lies of P
The most challenging part of beating the Parade Master boss in Lies of P is that you don’t have access to many tools yet. You can buy the other two starting weapons from the nearby merchant, but switching between the three is pretty much the only option you have if you’re struggling.
I ended up using the Rapier when fighting the first boss since the Parade Master leaves a ton of openings in between its attacks. So, you can dodge or guard when it strikes and poke it a few times before going back on the defensive.
While this boss is tough, there’s also zero risk to losing here. You’ve got a straight shot to run back to it once you open the shortcut, and you can scoop up any Ergo you lost right in front of the door leading to the arena.
Since there’s no risk involved, you should use the Parade Master’s first phase to master perfect parries. It plainly choreographs its attacks and is ideal for practicing dodging, guarding, and parrying. You’ll rely on these skills throughout the game, so it’s important to get their timing down now rather than later.
The Parade Master boss fight in Lies of P has two phases:
Phase 1
During Phase 1 of the Parade Master boss fight, you need to stick close to it. This will prevent it from using its dash attack, which is tricky to defend against. When you’re close in, the giant puppet will slash with its claws or try an overhead smash.
The Parade Master is very susceptible to the Groggy state, so as long as you keep the pressure up and perfect parry his attacks, you’ll notice his health bar flashing white quickly. When this occurs, hit him with a heavy attack to open it up to a Fatal Attack.
Phase 2
At around 50% health, the Parade Master will rip its head off and fashion a club from it. The big difference in this phase is that the boss gains a little speed and becomes much more aggressive. However, your tactics should be the same. Keep up the pressure and perfect parry when possible.
You can win this fight without performing any Fatal Attacks, but it makes for a longer, more grueling battle. Your goal should be to stagger the boss as much as possible and end things before you run out of Pulse Cells.
For beating the Parade Master in Lies of P, you get the Parade Leader’s Ergo and a piece of Quartz. You’ll also unlock the Parade Master achievement or trophy.
