There’s a weight limit in Lies of P, but the game doesn’t do a great job of cluing you in on how being heavy affects you. Fortunately, this system isn’t too complicated, and there are ways of reducing weight so you don’t experience any negative effects.
What does weight do in Lies of P?
In Lies of P, weight affects your movement and stamina recovery speed. There are three levels of encumbrance:
- Normal: Under 60%
- Slightly Heavy: 60-79%
- Heavy: 80-100%
If you’ve played any of FromSoftware’s Souls games, this stat works similarly to Equip Load:
- Light → Normal
- Medium → Slightly Heavy
- Heavy → Heavy
You increase your weight each time you equip a weapon (even in a non-active slot), an amulet, or a defense part. However, the penalties are initially less severe than they are in the Dark Souls series. In those titles, the difference between a Light and Medium dodge or roll is very noticeable, but that’s not the case in Lies of P. Ideallym, you want to stay at normal weight, but I didn’t notice that being Slightly Heavy made a huge difference.
The same can’t be said about being heavy in Lies of P. When you reach this level of burden, Pinocchio does the fattest roll imaginable and runs like he’s wading through pudding. You’ll want to shed some pounds when you reach this point.
How to decrease weight in Lies of P
Fortunately, there are a few ways to decrease your weight in Lies of P:
- Increase your Capacity stat.
- Equip lighter gear.
- Unequip gear.
The easiest but most costly method of increasing how much you carry before you’re encombered is to increase your Capacity stat. This raises the maximum weight you can carry, so you can equip heavier gear without hitting Slightly Heavy.
Alternatively, you can switch to lighter-weight gear. This can allow you to fill out all your gear slots.
You can also just unequip some gear altogether. I found myself running through most of the game with just one weapon equipped, which made it easy to stay in normal weight range.
