Square Enix Donates Nearly a Half-Million Dollars to Kumamoto Earthquake Relief

In response to the extensive damage dealt by two Kumamoto earthquakes on April 14 (magnitude 6.2) and April 16 (magnitude 7.0), Square Enix has released an official statement that it has donated 50 million yen ($456,485US) toward the recovery:

Square Enix Group (the “Group”) extends its deepest sympathies and condolences to all those affected by the 2016 Kumamoto Earthquake.

With the hope to support the earliest possible relief and recovery of affected regions, the Group has made a donation of 50 million Japanese yen to the Japan Red Cross Society.

More than 140 aftershocks where registered between both earthquakes. The latest report says that over 48 people have been killed as of Wednesday due to the earthquake, leaving 1,095 people injured.

Intense rain has halted progress by police officers and Self-Defense Forces personnel, and weather officials caution against possible landslides in the region.
