Pokemon Go just keeps on coming with its themed events. Following on from the lovey-dovey Valentine’s Day update comes a Lunar New Year celebration. Say hello to Shiny Poochyena, and a few other doggie treats.
That’s right: to celebrate the Chinese New Year, the Year of the Dog has come to Pokemon Go. Not only can you catch a shiny Poochyena in the Lunar Event, but you’ll also be able to encounter its shiny evolution, Mightyena.
Good Boy lovers everywhere will be pleased to know that the doggo-themed Lunar Event lasts until February 17, giving you just over another 24 hours to go searching for those elusive shinies.
Niantic’s Twitter account revealed further details, stating that “Trainers who catch a Poochyena, Growlithe, Snubbull, Eevee, or Electrike will receive bonus Stardust.” You now have even more excuses to catch the pupper of your choice. Even if a few of those ‘mon are edging further and further away from being dogs. I’m looking at you, Eevee. What next? Meowth in dog ears?
For those lucky enough to be in Taiwan to ring in the Lunar New Year, Niantic has announced that the famous Chiayi Lantern festival will be home to a Safari Zone event. In it, you’ll be able to encounter Pokemon as far-ranging as Dratini, Mr. Mime, Lanturn, and more. The event runs from February 26 through to March 3 if, y’know, you’re really desperate and want to catch a flight to the Far East.
Away from the Lunar New Year event, the Pokemon Go Valentine’s Day event has been extended by another 24 hours due to log-in issues that plagued some users.
