Horizon Zero Dawn Celebrates One Year Anniversary, Reaches 7.6 Million in Sales

Guerilla Games is celebrating the one year anniversary of Horizon Zero Dawn today. The game has managed to achieve many milestones in the span of merely one year, including the release of the Frozen Wilds expansion and winning various awards.

Killzone community editor Victor Zuylen shared some stats via PlayStation Blog, revealing that Horizon Zero Dawn sales figures have exceeded a whopping 7.6 million units worldwide. It is now the best-selling new first-party franchise for the console since the PS4 was launched over five years ago.

Guerilla co-founder and managing director Hermen Hulst said: “We had huge ambition for Horizon Zero Dawn and as we approached the launch we knew people were excited, but to see sales of this volume is truly mind-blowing. Since launch, millions of players have joined Aloy on a quest to discover the secrets of the old ones. We hope they enjoy playing Horizon Zero Dawn as much as we enjoyed making it.”

Guerilla Games has decided to reward all Horizon Zero Dawn players by introducing a bundle of PS4 avatars consisting of fan-favorite Horizon Zero Dawn characters, along with a PS4 theme containing several of the best Photo Mode snaps by players. These will be available to download for free starting tomorrow.

There will also be a special anniversary discount on the Modern Icons Aloy statue in the PlayStation Gear store. Players will just have to enter the code ‘anniversary’ during checkout to enjoy a 25 percent discount. This promotion will be available throughout March.

Thanks to the Critic’s Choice Sale, the PlayStation Store is offering Horizon Zero Dawn: Complete Edition at 30 percent off for regular customers and 35 percent off for PS Plus subscribers. Last but not least, players can check out this new video by music supervisor Lucas van Tol, who explains how the music in Horizon Zero Dawn was made:

Players can look forward to more Horizon Zero Dawn celebratory goodness in the near future. In other news, Horizon Zero Dawn won awards for Outstanding Technical Achievement and Outstanding Achievement in Story at the recent DICE Awards.
