Warcraft 3 Patch 1.29 Adds Widescreen and 24-Player Lobby Support

The 16-year old Warcraft 3 has received its latest update, in which Blizzard has brought many much-needed improvements to the game. The iconic real-time strategy game has finally added widescreen support, along with bookends to the in-game interface and black pillars in menus with the purpose of preventing stretching.

In the update posted by Blizzard on the forum, Warcraft 3 has also expanded its game lobbies to accommodate up to 24 players at any one time, as well as a host of 12 new team colors to choose from, including Maroon, Navy, Turquoise and many more.

That’s not all as ladder standings have also been reset and replays are now incompatible between major game versions. Long-time players should keep in mind that this will be the last version of Warcraft 3 to support the Windows XP operating system. Additionally, automated tournaments will resume next week.

Several bug fixes have been implemented, including for the creation of clans, Mac launches, Korean local launches and various missing textures. The default resolution also no longer resembles Felwood and ladder maps have been cleansed of sneaky tower locations near starting mines.

Last but not least, known issues have identified, including the problem with the resolution not changing properly when switching between windowed and full screen, amongst others. Some heroes have also received balance changes and players can check out the full list of changes here.

In other related news, Warcraft recently crossed over with the Family Guy animated series. The episode can be summarized as “Peter and the guys get caught pretending to be military veterans and are sentenced to join the Coast Guard.” The episode aired on April Fool’s Day on Fox. Blizzard also recently announced the release date for its next expansion for the Warcraft spin-off MMORPG World of Warcraft, Battle for Azeroth. It will be the seventh expansion overall and will release on August 14th, 2018.
