Platinum Games Director Wants The Wonderful 101 on Switch; Calls Bayonetta 3 a “Turning Point”

Platinum Games are certainly showing no signs of letting up. Fresh off their stellar work on last year’s NieR Automata, attention has turned to both the past and the future of the company, namely The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 3.

Speaking at developer event Reboot Develop 2018, Platinum directors Atushi Inaba and Hideki Kamiya spoke fondly of The Wonderful 101, which achieved cult success on the Wii U, and hinted at the distinct possibility of a Switch port.

Kamiya’s quotes, via translator, on the game are as follows: They’re still trying to negotiate with Nintendo whether a possible Wonderful 101 Switch release could happen but it always helps when the people in the audience at Reboot clap if they’d actually buy a Switch version of Wonderful 101.” Not one to turn down Hideki Kamiya, the whole room broke out into applause, the good sports.

While that is very much up in the air, Bayonetta 3 is definitely happening. Speaking to during the panel, Inaba didn’t give too much away but was keen to make reference to the third game in the series being a ‘turning point’ for the company. When you take into account this is a company that has already put out some of the finest games to hit the medium, that’s a very bold statement.

Platinum are also looking to add new gimmicks and new ways to play the game, according to the relayed quotes from the panel’s translation.

Platinum’s past, Platinum’s future – it’s all tied to the Nintendo Switch. If Kamiya and Inaba get their way, the next 12 months could be some of the developer’s finest work yet, and The Wonderful 101 might finally get some of the love it so richly deserves.
