It's been almost six years since Natural Selection 2 was announced, and now it's ready to unleash its hybrid shooter/strategy experience upon PC gamers for a modest price.
Natural Selection is scheduled to release on October 31st… 2012! It's already available for pre-order for a fair $25, although a premium version that includes a soundtrack, art book and more can be bought for $40.
The original Natural Selection was one of the most popular Half-Life mods rivaled only by the likes of Counter-Strike and Team Fortress Classic. The series blends real-time strategy and first-person shooter elements, all within the aliens vs marines theme that could raise even Arnold Schwarzenegger's blood pressure.
Natural Selection 2's greatest offering is its massive visual upgrade over the original, but despite common belief it doesn't run on the Source engine. However, it's being developed by a dedicated team of half a dozen or so employees, some of which worked on the original.
In addition to the release date a teaser trailer was released which can be seen below.
