God of War Sales Hit Over Five Million in Just One Month

After conquering April, Kratos is still out for blood. God of War sales have reached over five million in just one month. Sony Interactive Entertainment President and CEO John Kodera (also known as Tsuyoshi) announced the figures in a presentation for Sony IR Day 2018.

The presentation, which is all in Japanese, details that Sony’s accomplishments. Kodera said “that they exceeded five million copies actual sales in one month after release” according to a translation from the PS4 subreddit and some members over at Resetera.

This number, while impressive, is not exactly surprising given the game’s track record. It’s no secret that God of War has been explosively popular since its release on April 20th. Our review matched the chorus of almost universally positive reviews from around the press.

Its incredible sales have been hinted at since the game’s release. Not only was it the fastest-selling PS4 exclusive, but it has also been consistently topping the charts over in the United Kingdom. God of War, as the recent April NPD showed, was the best-selling game in April 2018, yielded the biggest launch month dollar sales for a PlayStation exclusive, and is the best-selling exclusive game of the year. All of these milestones resulted in the best software dollar sales for Sony since the Xbox 360 in April 2008. The PS4 reached an all-time sales high for any April and the Limited Edition God of War PS4 Pro was the best-selling hardware that month.

The record-breaking God of War sales put it in line with other high-selling PS4 games. Guerrilla Games announced earlier this year that Horizon Zero Dawn has topped 7.6 million in sales since its release in February 2017. Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End sold 8.7 million units as of last January. Bloodborne hit 2 million sales from March 2015 to September 2015. And as of last month, Sony announced PS4 sales had reached 75 million.
