The Resident Evil 2 Remake announcement was one of the biggest surprises from the Sony press conference at E3 last week and at E3 in general. Now, Capcom has released a new gameplay video that gives us a better look at the game’s new and up-to-date visuals.
The remake of the classic PlayStation game introduces all-new visuals, cinematics, as well as a new third-person camera as opposed to the fixed camera of the original. Certain elements has also been changed such as item locations as well as where the game’s different zombies will appear, making the game feel fresh for those who played the original. The remake uses the new RE Engine that also used for Resident Evil 7.
The story of the RE2 Remake will also be consistent with the original and will still star both Leon Kennedy and Claire Redfield, although both characters will have different and separate campaigns unlike the “zapping” system the original employed. This simplifies the game into two campaigns rather than the four possible scenarios from the original.
The new gameplay video for the RE2 Remake shows off some gameplay from the perspective of Leon as he enters the Racoon City Police Station. The video shows him exploring the initial areas of the police station, showcasing the game’s new camera perspective, which makes the game feel more sinister as players are much closer to the action and the gore. It also shows a couple of the game’s other characters as well as a few moments of combat against the game’s zombies.
Resident Evil 2 was one of the most popular games of its time and is considered as one of the best in the series. It was initially released on the original PlayStation in 1998, where it sold almost 5 million copies, and was eventually ported to the PC, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, and GameCube.
The Resident Evil 2 Remake is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on January 25, 2018. You can check out the new gameplay video below:
