Tokyo Ghoul:re Call to Exist

Tokyo Ghoul:re Call to Exist Is the First in the Series to Come to the West

Bandai Namco announced today that Tokyo Ghoul:re Call to Exist will be coming soon to PS4 and PC in Europe and the US. It’s the first game in the Tokyo Ghoul franchise to come to the West, a growing trend in formerly Japan-exclusive anime video games.

Tokyo Ghoul is one of the many iconic anime that people will likely picture when someone mentions the medium. It’s garnered a huge following in the West over the past few decades, but something we’ve only seen recently is an increase in game adaptations seeing the light of day outside of Japan and Asia. Tokyo Ghoul:re Call to Exist is now on that ever-growing list, and it’s also the first Tokyo Ghoul game that’s actually been released in the West.

In Tokyo Ghoul:re Call to Exist, characters from across the franchise, including Tokyo GhoulTokyo Ghoul √A, and Tokyo Ghoul:re, are all fighting for survival either as a ghoul or an investigator. Each character type will possess their own unique abilities and will be able to master their own weapons, including ‘Kagune’ or ‘Quinque’ type weapons. There’s going to be an offline mode and an online multiplayer co-op mode, where you pick your side and challenge your friends in gruesome battles to the death.

We don’t yet know the specific details of how Tokyo Ghoul:re Call to Exist will play, but it’ll be from a third-person perspective and it’s billed as a survival action game. It was initially announced only for PS4 in Japan, so not only is it actually coming to the West, but Bandai Namco is giving the game a go on PC, another rarity when it comes to these kinds of titles.

Following the trends of Bandai Namco’s special treatment of anime adaptations, it’ll likely retain a lot of the dark atmosphere that Tokyo Ghoul fans know and love, at least from what we can see in the announcement trailer.
