Super Smash Bros Ultimate Direct: Richter Announced as New Fighter

In today’s Super Smash Bros Ultimate Direct, Richter was announced as a new fighter. Richter is the descendant of Simon Belmont and is a key figure numerous Castlevania games including Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. He’s joining the Super Smash Bros Ultimate roster alongside Simon, and the two will be echo fighters, so both will use the same basic move sets with variations on the look, sound, and the animations of each fighter.

The rumours were true – this Super Smash Bros Ultimate Direct had a big care package of Castlevania content. As well as the announcement of Simon Belmont, the main protagonist of Castlevania and Castlevania II: Simon’s Quest, legendary vampire hunter Richter Belmont, a descendant of Simon and a major player in series instalments like Castlevania: Symphony of the Night and Castlevania: Rondo of Blood, has also joined the fray as the mirror fighter for Simon.

Simon and Richter Belmont’s Final Smash will be called “Grand Cross,” in which an opponent fighter is locked in a casket and smashed about the place good and proper. Both fighters will wield their respective whips, which are slow and will leave you open to attacks, but sport a longer-than-average reach (hold on now) and can be freely moved. It’s not been confirmed how that last bit works, but it seems like it’s controlled by either the second joystick, the gyroscopic controls, or the touchscreen looking at the way in which it moves.
