Nintendo may love Mario but it doesn’t want you to forget about Yoshi. The green dinosaur’s newest adventure is coming quite soon. During the latest, Nintendo Direct, the console maker announced that Yoshi‘s Crafted World release date is spring 2019.
You’ll be able to play levels backwards, which the game calls the “flip side.” The trailer even showed off the ability to further mess with the levels since it is possible to change the perspective and flip the world upside in certain spots to catch more secrets and hidden details. Nintendo stated that each level has that main path along with a special hidden path that “offers different views and surprises.”
As is the case with many of Nintendo’s games, it will have multiplayer. One other player can grab a controller and enter the fray. Characters can even ride one another, as was shown in the trailer. Nintendo confirmed that it only supports two-player co-op.
Yoshi’s Crafted World is the follow-up to Yoshi’s Woolly World which originally came out on the Wii U in 2015. It was received relatively well at most gaming outlets, with our own review praising the game for its art direction and solid controls. But instead of the arts and craft motif, that first game was set in a world made of wool, hence the name. The Yoshi amiibo for the game was even made of yarn.
The game even came to the 3DS in early 2017 under the name Poochy and Yoshi’s Woolly World. As the title implies, it let players summon Poochy and made the game much easier in its “Mellow Mode.” It received about the same amount of critical praise when it released, although reviewers missed the vibrant colors from the Wii U version. The game did seem to retain its charm in the portable version, however.
