53-Game SEGA Genesis Classic Switch Physical Edition Confirmed

SEGA has today confirmed that it will be releasing its compendium of Genesis games on Nintendo Switch this winter, both physically and digitally. SEGA Genesis Classics brings together a large amount of classic Genesis titles onto one disc (or cartridge, in this case). SEGA Genesis Classics released on Xbox One, PS4, and PC on May 29, 2018.

SEGA confirmed SEGA Genesis Classics Switch earlier today, via its official Twitter page. You can see the tweet below:

SEGA Genesis Classics offers players a large amount of classic Genesis games all under one roof. The likes of Sonic the HedgehogStreets of Rage, and Shining Force all feature. There are a grand total of 53 games included in the collection. Despite this, there are a few noteworthy titles missing from the extensive list. None of the Ecco the Dolphin games are on it, for example. Sonic 3 & Knuckles, however, is the most notable exclusion, especially considering all the other Genesis Sonic titles are present.

Alongside the classic games are a bevvy of bonus features. You will be transported back into the 1990s with a menu screen that looks like a bedroom straight out of those heady days. Rewind features, saves, and different visual styles (widescreen, 4:3, or smoothed out).

SEGA is also set to release individual classic games digitally on Nintendo Switch. The SEGA Ages line of re-releases was announced exclusively for Switch around the same time Genesis Classics was confirmed for every other console. These eShop only downloads will be of classic SEGA games. The likes of Sonic the HedgehogPhantasy Star, and Alex Kidd have been confirmed to be on their way. In total, SEGA has confirmed that the first batch of SEGA Ages games will be made up of 15 titles. While not only limited to Genesis titles, SEGA Ages is bound to have some crossover with the Genesis Classics collection.
