New Resident Evil 2 Trailer Dropped at TGS

The Resident Evil 2 remake was first shown off at this year’s E3 to much acclaim, and its follow-up announcement would end up winning the Best of Show award at the 2018 Game Critics Awards. Now, there’s been a new Resident Evil 2 trailer released for the remake, fresh off the press at Tokyo Game Show. The footage shows Leon and Ada tackling the uncertainties of Raccoon City’s dangerous underground, and seems to suggest that the storylines playable by Claire and Leon will be totally distinct.

From what we already know of this remake, it’s going to be a direct upgrade of the components that made Resident Evil 2 so great. This isn’t just a remaster with minimal tweaking. It will have plenty of modern conveniences, including a third person POV which looks to move fluidly in the footage so far. The change in POV was intended to make the experience more harrowing for the players involved, according to producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi’s interview with Gamespot.

Another modern addition to the new Resident Evil 2 remake is the fact that much like Monster Hunter World cast off the ideas of its older siblings, loading screens between areas are now history. The twin storylines are also getting a bit of an overhaul here with Claire and Leon duking it out in their own solitary narratives without the need (that we know of at this stage) to play as them in a particular order to get a fully-fledged game experience.

There’s a lot to look forward to with this latest Resident Evil 2 trailer, and it’s clear that Capcom is wanting to whet our appetite in advance of the game’s relatively close release date of January 2019. That’s really not much time at all, which could very well mean that another comprehensive sneak peek at gameplay footage isn’t too far off for fans who have been holding their breath in anticipation.
