Dragon Quest 11 Switch Port Announced

The Dragon Quest 11 Switch port has finally been confirmed by Square Enix. The latest entry to the Dragon Quest franchise was announced in 2015 for PS4, PC, and the Nintendo 3DS. Prior to this recent reveal, Square Enix had not officially announced the existence of this version of the game.

At a stage event at Tokyo Game Show 2018, Square Enix formally announced the Dragon Quest 11 Switch port. This version of the game (translated from Japanese) will be called Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age S. In the Famitsu report on this announcement Yuji Hori, the creator of the series, noted that the ‘S’ in the title may not only stand for ‘Switch,’ adding that the letter could stand for “Special” or “Speak.” He also stated that the release of the game on Nintendo’s hybrid-portable console is still “a little while ahead.” You can also see the new logo for the port below (via Famitsu).

When the game was originally announced, it was promised to release on the Nintendo Switch along with other consoles. However, since the initial announcement, there had been no major updates for this port of the game. In July of this year, it was reported that the Switch version of the game had to be delayed. This was due to the fact that the console was running an out of date version of the Unreal Engine. However, in August, Horii said that the development of the game was “progressing smoothly.”

Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age was released in Japan for PS4 and Nintendo 3DS in July 2017. The game came to the west on PS4 and PC September 4. It was received positively, with our own review of the game giving it a 4.5 out of 5, citing its visual design as its most striking aspect.
