Xbox One Sales Are ‘Performing Phenomenally,’ According to NPD Analyst

There’s no problem with the Xbox One’s sales numbers, but the console is repeatedly outpaced by the PlayStation 4, its main rival alongside the Switch. But according to an NPD analyst, there’s nothing to worry about. Xbox One sales are apparently not only doing great, but are “performing phenomenally.”

According to NPD analyst Mat Piscatletta, Xbox One sales have been strong this year, showing the most growth among its rivals.

“It’s a mid-generation turnaround the market’s never seen before,” he further added. “This qualifies as phenomenal, even if not market leading.”

Sales of both the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One are strong as rumors start on the next set of consoles. Microsoft is reportedly working on two different systems under the codename Scarlett. There are also rumblings of a disc-less Xbox One console that is reportedly in development for next year.

PlayStation 5 rumors have been swirling around as well. Sony will not be holding a PSX event this year, nor will they be participating at E3 in 2019, which leads to speculation regarding what they are working on.

Last month’s NPD press release said that the spending gains for the Xbox One, among other consoles, continue to drive growth for the industry. The PlayStation 4 was the best-selling console of the month, with overall hardware increasing by 26 percent compared to last year, a new October record.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 was the best selling game overall, with sales so strong it has already become the best selling game of 2018. Hardware spending year-to-date has increased 19 percent overall to $2.7 billion.
