Sonic Movie Writer to Fans On Sonic’s New Look: ‘Everybody Relax’

The first images for the upcoming Sonic the Hedgehog movie have appeared on the internet this week. Let’s just say the reaction so far has been… not positive. One Sonic movie writer took to Twitter to try to alleviate things.

Patrick Casey, the writer in question, posted a simple request in response to negative feedback on Sonic’s new look for the film:

One Twitter user asked him if “everybody” included the original creators of the character. This may be referring to Sonic the Hedgehog creator Yuji Naka, who said on Twitter (according to translation) “Reading this comment is a pretty unpopular feeling. Is it really good to see it? It’s a lot of tough anime and game movies. Why is this going to happen?”

Casey reiterated by again saying “everybody.” According to the user, Casey then deleted the second tweet and reportedly blocked anyone who replied to it.

IGN revealed Sonic’s new look in a “first look” article published on Monday. The first teaser for the movie shows Sonic running into frame, sporting muscular arms, legs, and realistic fur. And although they can’t be seen in the teaser, producers noted that Sonic’s eyes would be getting a redesign so that they could look better in a live action film setting.

Along with the teaser, a new poster for the film has also been seen in the wild. This shows Sonic sitting on top of San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge, his new muscular legs front and center. It also shows his new shoes, which have been redesigned for the film. This too has been criticized around social media.

Whatever the case may be, this is how Sonic will look in the upcoming film, which is set for release on November 9, 2019. It will be directed by Jeff Fowley and executive produced by Tim Miller.
