Rami Ismail's Meditations

Rami Ismail Launches Meditations Collection, New 5-Minute Game Every Day

Vlambeer’s Rami Ismail has launched a new initiative dubbed Meditations, providing a new game every day until 2020. The Meditations collection features projects by over 350 individuals, all contributing games to the unique project.

Ismail announced the project on December 31, and you can find the download here. The initiative came about when Ismail played Tempres on a whim in 2017, which gave him the idea of playing a new game every day. Tempres is the first game in the collection and became available on January 1. Each day’s game will be unique and from a different person than the last. Ismail put a statement on the project.

“Meditations will launch you a new game, every day, inspired by that day, only on that day,” he said. “There’s all sorts of games in here, from curious small puzzle games and challenging little platformers to personal games about life and loss and happiness and love and death and everything.”

Ismail set out to recruit game devs for the project throughout 2018, and plans to release a full list of contributors on December 31, 2019 after all of the games have been released. All of the games are said to take less than five minutes, and none contain any text. Games are a “global language of their own” and the exclusion of text ensures these games are global, according to Ismail. Each game meditation has a short description, but otherwise the games are free of text.

Alongside Ismail are a number of curators including Adriel Wallick, Jupiter Hadley, Krzysztof “dalton” Pachulski and Michal Odziemczyk. Each day will only have one game available on it, and past days are unavailable until next year.

Rami Ismail is one half of Vlambeer, alongside Jan Willem Nijman. Vlambeer developed Ridiculous Fishing, Luftrausers, and Nuclear Throne among others. Ismail received the Ambassador Award at the Game Developers Choice Awards in 2018.
