Resident Evil Switch release dates

Resident Evil Switch release dates announced

Resident Evil Switch release dates have finally dropped. After being revealed in October 2018, we’ve finally learned that Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil remaster, and Resident Evil 4 are all coming to the Nintendo Switch in late Spring. This won’t mark the first time these titles have been on a Nintendo console, they were all first released on GameCube, but it does bring the Switch up to par with the compeition as these titles have been available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One for some time.

Unfortunately, though these classic titles are a huge win for Switch owners, it doesn’t look like the Resident Evil 2 remake will make it to Nintendo Switch. However, it does bode well that Capcom is bringing other entries in the series to the console.

It’s likely that Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil remaster, and Resident Evil 4 for the Switch will not contain any new content. We haven’t gotten details on the technical aspects of the ports yet, but since RE0 and REmaster haven’t been on an ARM-based platform before, at least some of the work is Switch-specific. Hopefully, that means we’ll see some quality optimization here.

So far, according to official Tweets, European players will be able to purchase all three games as separate digital downloads off the Nintendo eShop. North American players will get the option to buy Resident Evil 0 and Resident Evil remaster in a bundle as the Resident Evil Origins Collection. Mirroring the Origins Collection on PS4 and Xbox One, it appears that this will be available as a physical copy in retail stores.

I’m excited to see these games appear on the Switch, but all three have appeared on a multitude of platforms as seen below:

Resident Evil 0:

  • GameCube
  • PC
  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox 360
  • Xbox One
  • Wii

Resident Evil remaster:

  • GameCube
  • PC
  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox 360
  • Xbox One
  • Wii

Resident Evil 4:

  • Android
  • iOS
  • GameCube
  • PC
  • PlayStation 2
  • PlayStation 3
  • PlayStation 4
  • Xbox 360
  • Xbox One
  • Wii
  • Zeebo

Seeing as these titles are so prolific, and available on current-gen platforms, it’d be nice to see some other Resident Evil games get a release on Switch. The original Resident Evil 2, RE3, and Code Veronica would all be welcome additions to the Switch library and make it the platform of choice for a lot of fans.

Pre-orders for Resident Evil 0, Resident Evil remaster, and Resident Evil 4 go live on February 28. All three will release on Nintendo Switch on May 21, 2019.
