There’s scary and then there’s pure nightmare fuel. Case in point: Mr. X shambling through the corridors of Raccoon City’s Police Department in Resident Evil 2 is pretty scary, but doesn’t hold a candle to seeing the dead-eyed face of Thomas the Tank Engine staring back at you. Incredibly, that’s now a reality thanks to a new Resident Evil 2 mod that supplants the Tyrant and puts the (lovable?) children’s character in its place. And, yes, the show’s theme music is along for the ride too, if you so wish.
The Resident Evil 2 mod is a hairbrained creation but, surprisingly, isn’t the work of Umbrella. The twisted experiment is courtesy of modder ZombieAli over at the Resident Evil Modding boards. It takes the model of Mr. X and replaces him with Thomas the Tank Engine. They even recommend taking the time to download an accompanying pack, complete with the Thomas and Friends song from the TV show, whose heyday was in the late 1980s. Because of course.
Want to see it in action? Scroll on down to the bottom of the page to see the surreal sight of a a nearly- nude protagonist (my study of his naked torso reveals it probably isn’t Leon S. Kennedy) making his way through the Resident Evil 2 “A” route and being met by Mr. X as Thomas the Tank Engine. In many ways, it’s a whole lot more terrifying than the original, with the train chugging along down the corridors of RPD and its whistle echoing around the main hall. I hope you weren’t planning on sleeping tonight.
This isn’t the first time Thomas has laid down tracks in a mod. Famously, the dragons of Skyrim were replaced by the likes of Thomas and Percy, proving that the steam train fits in just about anywhere.
Now, replace William Birkin with the Fat Controller and I think we might be on to something.
例のきかんしゃMODを導入して遊んでみたんだけど、これはこれで中々怖いな…
