Runic Games may be no more, having ceased operations in late 2017, but its games have continued to live on. Perfect World Entertainment announced that Hob and Torchlight 2 Switch ports are in the works. Panic Button is handling the ports with both games expected soon.
Perfect World announced the ports of single-player action-adventure Hob and co-op action RPG Torchlight 2 this week. Hob is coming to the Switch on April 4, 2019, and will be available for $19.99. Fewer details were released about Torchlight 2 Switch, which is slated for Fall 2019. Panic Button will also be porting Torchlight 2 to other consoles. A new trailer for the Hob Switch release was also published today.
Hob was released on Windows and PS4 in September 2017. Runic had been working on the game since the release of Torchlight 2 in 2012. It is a single-player action adventure set in a unique world. Players must solve puzzles and fight enemies in a Zelda-inspired world. It was well-received but had some technical issues that went unfixed. Panic Button’s Switch port is said to have “improved controls and game features” so hopefully, it will also solve some of those technical problems.
Panic Button is also developing the console port of 2012 ARPG Torchlight 2. Torchlight 2 is now slated for Switch, PS4, and Xbox One for fall 2019. The Diablo-inspired game built upon the single-player base Torchlight, adding up to six-player online co-op. The game was acclaimed on release and sold over 3 million copies by mid-2015. The Torchlight 2 Switch, PS4, and Xbox One version does not have a firm release date.
Following Runic Games’ closure in 2017, Perfect World began working with Echtra Games on Torchlight Frontiers. Echtra Games was founded by several key staff members of Runic following Torchlight 2‘s release. It is a free-to-play shared-world ARPG. The title will release this year on PS4, Xbox One, and Windows. Perfect World will release more details on Torchlight 2‘s console release soon.
